Choral Scholarships
The PCC, Vicar and Churchwardens are pleased to announce that we are recruiting four choral scholars to join our choir for the 2024/25 academic year. As a church we are committed to the professional development and education of young musicians. These positions are well-suited to conservatoire students, university students and aspiring young professionals. The scholars are expected to play an important role within the choir, supporting their respective voice parts through the regular routine of services, rehearsals, and concerts. See here for more information.
After receipt of generous personal donations we are delighted to announce that the Governors of the Sir William Boreman Foundation have agreed to make a grant over three years towards the Choral Scholarship Programme.
If you are interested in becoming a choral scholar, or if you would be interested in supporting this exciting scheme, please be in touch with the Director of Music, Ben Newlove to discuss further.
Joni Foster - soprano choral scholar
My name is Joni Foster and I am this year‘s soprano choral scholar at St Alfege. Coming from a background of choral singing, since I was 11 I have been developing my abilities and interest in the music. Before coming to London I was head chorister at Worcester Cathedral. Currently, I am in my second year of an undergraduate degree in English at King‘s College London where I also hold a choral scholarship in the college chapel choir. In order to widen my knowledge and experience of choral music further I decided to apply to sing at St Alfege Church and I‘m delighted to be singing alongside some brilliant singers and in this welcoming and friendly community at St Alfege.
Eve Rhodes - alto choral scholar
Eve Rhodes is a Mezzo-Soprano from London with a particular interest in contemporary music. Last summer she received a first in performance from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance where she was an Old Royal Naval College chapel choir scholar and Elisabeth Schumann Lieder Competition 2023 finalist. She has been singing in choirs since she was seven years old and has performed at venues such as the Barbican, Royal Albert Hall (BBC proms) and Royal Festival Hall. Recent performances include Dixit Dominus soprano soloist (Northampton Bach choir), playing ‘Justine’ in the UK premier of Libby Larsen’s Frankenstein (Trinity Laban Summer opera) and Beethoven Mass in C/ Bach Jesu Meine Freude alto soloist (Southend Bach Choir). Eve recently organised and performed in a concert involving classical, jazz and electronic music and looks forward to continuing to sing freelance with choirs and as a soloist around London as well as researching and studying for her Masters.
